Publication Ethics

The Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence Systems journal is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in the publication of academic research. The following publication ethics guidelines outline the responsibilities of authors, reviewers, and editors in maintaining the integrity and quality of the journal’s content:

1. Ethical Responsibilities of Authors:

  • Originality and Plagiarism: Authors are expected to submit original works that have not been previously published or are under consideration for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts must not contain plagiarized content, and any data or material that is borrowed from other sources must be properly cited and referenced.

  • Data Integrity: Authors must present their research results and findings honestly, without any manipulation or falsification of data. Any errors or inconsistencies discovered after publication must be promptly communicated to the editorial team for correction.

  • Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial, personal, or professional conflicts of interest that may have influenced the research or its interpretation. This includes funding sources, sponsorships, or any relationships that could affect the objectivity of the research.

  • Authorship: All individuals who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, analysis, and interpretation of the research should be listed as authors. Authors should ensure that all individuals who contributed to the work are acknowledged, and no one should be omitted from the authorship.

  • Submission to Multiple Journals: Manuscripts submitted to the Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence Systems journal must not be under simultaneous consideration by any other journal. Dual submission is considered unethical and will result in immediate rejection of the manuscript.

2. Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers:

  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents. They should not share or discuss the manuscript with others, nor should they use the content of the manuscript for personal gain.

  • Objectivity and Impartiality: Reviewers must provide an objective and unbiased evaluation of the manuscript, focusing on its scientific merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the field. Personal bias, discrimination, or judgment unrelated to the content should not influence the review.

  • Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers must inform the editorial team if they have any conflicts of interest related to the manuscript being reviewed. Reviewers should not review manuscripts in which they have a personal or professional interest.

  • Timeliness: Reviewers must provide their feedback within the agreed-upon timeframe. Delays in the review process can hinder the timely publication of high-quality research.

  • Constructive Feedback: Reviewers should provide constructive, clear, and actionable feedback to authors. Comments should be aimed at improving the quality of the manuscript, rather than focusing on minor issues.

3. Ethical Responsibilities of Editors:

  • Fair and Impartial Decision-Making: Editors are responsible for making publication decisions based on the scientific merit of the manuscript, the significance of the research, and the relevance to the journal’s scope. Editors should avoid personal or professional bias in the decision-making process.

  • Confidentiality: Editors must ensure the confidentiality of all manuscripts and correspondence. They should not disclose any information about a manuscript to third parties unless it is required for the peer review process.

  • Handling of Conflicts of Interest: Editors must disclose any conflicts of interest related to the manuscripts they handle and recuse themselves from editorial decisions if a conflict of interest exists. If an editor has a conflict of interest, another editor should be assigned to handle the manuscript.

  • Ensuring the Quality of Published Content: Editors must ensure that all published research meets the journal’s standards for scientific rigor, clarity, and ethical compliance. This includes overseeing the peer review process and taking corrective action if errors, ethical violations, or misconduct are identified in the published work.

  • Correcting and Retraction of Articles: In cases of errors, plagiarism, or research misconduct identified after publication, the editor is responsible for taking corrective actions, including issuing corrections, retractions, or clarifications. The process must be transparent and aim to preserve the integrity of the academic record.

4. Publication Ethics and Misconduct:

  • Plagiarism: The journal has a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding plagiarism. If a manuscript is found to contain plagiarized content, it will be rejected, and the author may be banned from submitting future work to the journal.

  • Fabrication and Falsification: Any form of data fabrication or falsification is unethical and unacceptable. If such misconduct is detected, the manuscript will be rejected, and the author will be reported to the relevant academic or professional body.

  • Duplicate Publication: Authors must not submit manuscripts that have been previously published in other journals or that are under consideration by other publishers. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals is considered unethical and will lead to rejection.

  • Redundant Publication: Authors must avoid redundant publication of research findings. If the manuscript substantially overlaps with previous work, this should be disclosed during submission. Authors should avoid self-plagiarism, i.e., reusing their own previously published material without proper acknowledgment.

  • Ethical Approval: For studies involving human or animal subjects, authors must obtain appropriate ethical approval from relevant institutional review boards or ethics committees. The ethical approval number and the name of the approving body should be included in the manuscript submission.

5. Ensuring Transparency in Research:

  • Open Data and Open Methods: The journal encourages authors to make their data, methodologies, and research tools publicly available whenever possible. This includes providing access to supplementary materials, code, and datasets, with the goal of increasing the transparency and reproducibility of research.

  • Citations and Acknowledgments: Authors are required to appropriately cite all sources that have influenced their research. This includes proper acknowledgment of funding sources, collaborations, and prior work.

6. Handling Complaints and Appeals:

  • The Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence Systems journal has a transparent process for handling complaints, disputes, and appeals related to editorial decisions, reviewer feedback, and publication ethics. Any concerns raised by authors or reviewers will be addressed promptly and fairly. The journal will follow established protocols for investigating any allegations of misconduct or ethical violations.
