The integration of smart pavements into Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) represents a transformative advancement in modern infrastructure. Smart pavements, embedded with sensors and communication technologies, facilitate real-time traffic monitoring, environmental sensing, and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication. This paper explores the design, functionality, and potential impacts of smart pavements in Pakistan's urban transportation networks. Emphasis is placed on material innovation, sensor integration, and data analytics for traffic management and predictive maintenance. Through case studies and data-driven insights, this study assesses the readiness and challenges of deploying smart pavements in Pakistan, suggesting a multi-stakeholder approach for effective implementation.
