Survival-Based Forecasting of Post Attention Decay under Cross-Platform Exposure

The contemporary digital landscape is characterized by an overwhelming abundance of information, leading to intense competition for user attention. Understanding how long a social media post or digital article can sustain user engagement before falling into obscurity is a critical challenge for platform engineers, content creators, and digital sociologists. This paper introduces a novel methodological framework that applies survival analysis to forecast the attention decay of digital posts, with a specific focus on the mitigating effects of cross-platform exposure. By treating the cessation of meaningful user engagement as a terminal event, we employ advanced survival models, including the Cox Proportional Hazards model and the Accelerated Failure Time model, to estimate the lifespan of digital content. Through the analysis of extensive, synthesized multi-platform datasets, we investigate how content dissemination across heterogeneous networks impacts the hazard rate of attention decay. The findings demonstrate that cross-platform exposure significantly prolongs the active lifespan of a post by creating synergistic engagement loops that delay the onset of algorithmic obscurity. This research contributes to the theoretical understanding of information dynamics in interconnected digital ecosystems and provides actionable analytical frameworks for optimizing content distribution strategies.
