Abstract

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) have emerged as a revolutionary technology poised to reshape transportation systems worldwide. Central to their operation are sensor fusion and navigation techniques, which enable precise environmental perception and reliable path planning. This paper reviews current sensor fusion methodologies and navigation algorithms employed in AVs, focusing on their applications, challenges, and advances in the context of Pakistani research and technological development. Emphasis is placed on integrating multi-sensor data, including LiDAR, radar, cameras, and GPS, to achieve robust situational awareness. The paper also discusses the implementation of Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), Kalman filters, and machine learning-based navigation approaches. Finally, prospects for future research and the potential impact on Pakistan's automotive industry and smart transportation infrastructure are outlined.
