Abstract

Water scarcity in arid and semi-arid regions, especially in Pakistan, poses a severe threat to socio-economic sustainability and food security. This study investigates a range of engineering-based interventions aimed at mitigating the effects of limited freshwater availability in such regions. Through a multidisciplinary lens, it explores integrated water resource management (IWRM), the deployment of desalination and water reuse technologies, and the implementation of efficient irrigation systems. Case studies from Tharparkar, Balochistan, and southern Punjab are analyzed to assess the practicality and performance of these technologies. The article highlights the importance of policy integration, community engagement, and technological innovation for long-term water resilience.
